Gas Price Drumbeat: Thinks more competition needed here

CM Editorial: Drive less, buy less gasoline to get the price down. Demand speed limits for the whole county which will allow Neighborhood Electric Vehicle (NEV) tavel throughout Adair County, including from Columbia to Holladay Place. -ED WAGGENER

Ed,It seems that gas is always higher in Columbia I think too few competitors furnish the gas here. I say let them keep it.We haven't bought gas or diesel in Columbia forever. If more people would leave Columbia to purchase gas and while in another county buy thier groceries, clothes, and anything else they need like I do then we may see some changes. You may not save anything, but what have you got to lose? Gas, groceries, and everything else seems to be cheaper in other counties.

s/Joyce Loy

Thanks for your comments. At CM, we're too loyal to the greatest town on earth not to continue to buy everything we can here, including gas, which we buy as often as we can from independent dealers--they aren't to blame. What we do, however, is follow my Mother's rule to buy less and less while prices are too high. I've done that for gas. I take driving holidays. Yesterday, I only drove the CM van one-half mile, and only did that because of the rain. One, two or three day a week gas buying holidays might get the suppliers' attention. Their higher prices are hurting the Adair County economy, but it may spur us to take the action needed to make sure the price differential ends forever. We also need more leadership from elected officials and the Chamber of Commerce. At least Fiscal Court has taken action to reduce its fuel costs. -EW
