OZARK: The Gerhard Lepiarczyk Family Christmas 2008!

Adair Countian celebrates Christmas with family and friends with splendid Christmas feast--with culinary triumphs and reminders of Polish ancestries, mass at renowned Cathedral of the Assumption, and finally, a return to good old Adair County, KY for more Christmas celebrations

by E. H. Lepiarczyk of Ozark

Messrs. Erwin Lepiarczyk and Kazimierz Rusek, of Adair County, enjoyed their holidays' journey to Louisville for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day festivities.

Before they left Columbia they visited the Dairy Queen restaurant for some holiday cheer. Miss Gina was in a Merry Christmas way!

Onward to Louisville, Messrs. Lepiarczyk and Rusek reached their holidays' destination at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Gerhard Lepiarczyk. Mr. David Lepiarczyk greeted Messrs. Erwin Lepiarczyk and Rusek at the front door upon their arrival.

A splendid Christmas Eve feast

A splendid Christmas Eve dinner was enjoyed by all in celebration of the Gerhard Lepiarczyk Family Christmas 2008. The Christmas Eve ham prepared by Mr. Gerhard Lepiarczyk was absolutely superb. Mrs. Lepiarczyk's legendary potato salad and banana pudding were both culinary triumphs!

Later that evening the Lepiarczyk family was visited by some of Santa's best helpers, the delightful Mrs. Thomas Miklosh and her lovely daughter, Miss Madison Miklosh, both of Louisville.

Midnight mass at Cathedral of the Assumption

Christmas Eve evening, Messrs. Erwin Lepiarczyk and Rusek attended Midnight Mass at the renowned Cathedral of the Assumption in Louisville. Archbishop Kurtz officiated the wondrous celebration. The music during the Mass was heavenly. The choir sounded like angels and heralds! The Archbishop's message, "the light of Christ", was quite inspiring.

Worship at Midnight Mass has long been a Christmas tradition for Messrs. Erwin Lepiarczyk and Rusek. A native of Poland, Mr. Rusek always attended Midnight Mass as a young boy with members of his family. He has embraced this tradition for more than eight decades even in the United States of America!

Friends and acquaintances visit at Holy Night Mass

Mr. Erwin Lepiarczyk was pleased to see friends and acquaintances at the Mass on this Holy Night. Christmas Day, Messrs. Erwin and Gerhard Lepiarczyk telephoned family members in Poland and Germany to share Christmas greetings.

Most family members were doing very well and enjoying Christmas blessings. A White Christmas was reported in Mr. Gerhard Lepiarczyk's hometown of Rybnik in Upper Silesia.

Enjoy holiday moczka beverage and makowki bread

Mrs. Witold Krygier, of Rybnik, Poland, also reported that everyone was enjoying her holiday creations of "moczka beverage and makowki bread"! Just hearing Mrs. Krygier speak of Christmas traditions of yore in Upper Silesia deeply moved Mr. Gerhard Lepiarczyk. He reminisced his precious Christmas memories as a hearty youth in his beloved ancestral homeland. Mrs. Krygier's recipes are old European family treasures especially enjoyed at Christmastime.

The return to good old Adair County!

Gifts were presented in Louisville and then Messrs. Erwin Lepiarczyk and Rusek were off for good old Adair County! Upon their return they enjoyed a nice restful Christmas Day celebration.

Mr. Michael Stearns, of Adair County, Mr. Rusek's friend of longstanding, visited Mr. Rusek on Christmas Day.

Mr. Erwin Lepiarczyk, popularly known as "Sir Erwin", had enjoyed entertaining Adair Countians and Russell Countians in his musical engagements this Christmas Season before his Christmas journey to Louisville.

In Adair County, Mr. Erwin Lepiarczyk spoke with Mrs. Charles Warren on the telephone for Christmas Day. She had most enjoyable holidays with members of her family. And then, Mr. Erwin Lepiarczyk spoke with Mr. Lawrence Russo, of Adair County; formerly of Chicago, on the telephone. Mr. and Mrs. Russo had enjoyed pleasant holidays until later that Christmas Day evening.

And finally, Miss Janet Cabbell, shared with Mr. Erwin Lepiarczyk on the telephone that she had a blessed Christmas Day. May God bless all members and friends of the Gerhard Lepiarczyk family especially during the Christmas 2008 holidays and always. Happy New Year 2009!

CM appreciates Mr. Lepiarczyk's letter sharing the wonderful events surrounding his family's traditions and holiday moments. The article is reminiscent of those which used to be carried in the old Columbia Spectator, Adair County News, Columbia Kentuckian, and The Daily Statesman, and will certainly evoke wonderful memories of the writers who helped cement community bonds back when; and which, weekly, contained the important news of Gradyville, Glens Fork, Dirego, Montpelier, Cane Valley, Pellyton, Flatwoods, Breeding and Sparksville, Melson Ridge, Milltown, the Millerfields Bliss, Portland, Sano, Garlin, Christine, and all the other towns in Adair County. We welcome just letters again. Use any Contact/Submit button to send. Photos are also welcome. Who knows, we may find another Jasper and Donald Doss, Henry Giles, Miss Mamie Smith, or Audrey Waggener among the new country correspondents (I've left too many names and towns out, but would appreciate comments and additions. -EW
