ALLEN and PATTY GREEN can't remember the occasion, or what was so funny, but the whole Green of Joppa, KY, family was having a wonderful laugh together. as only the Greens could do. From left are Reeda Fae, Allen, Buddy, Charles, and Floyd Green. Allen Green can't remember what caused the hilarity, but if one of his sibs do, he'd like to know. A Today Feature picture

Scenic Adair Co., KY: Casey Creek, GRL, in winter

2008-12-30 - Green River Lake, Adair Co., KY - Photo by Shamarie Claiborne.
"Casey Creek is down but as beautiful as ever!" Shamarie Claiborne writes, with this striking picture of stickups, dominated by a hauntingly monumental, iconic tree. She adds some details for the would be explorer and/or photographer - "About the location and the picture: You go up past Egypt, past Plum Point, on KY 551, on the way to KY 76. At Robinson Chapel, you turn right on to Casey Creek Road. Go down the hill. . . a fantastic view. At the bottom of the hill turn right on Arnold's Landing Road, and go straight to the boat ramp at Arnold's Landing Park. I took pictures along the roadside and at the boat ramp. This photo, Casey Creek 2, is a point-and-click shot--no effects. It was from the boat ramp. The sun was going down and was only on that area of the creek. That is about all there is to it." Flickr. Rooftops: Columbia from Guthrie Street, Dec. 30, 2008

2008-12-30 - Columbia, District 3, Adair Co., KY - Photo By Ed Waggener.
The DAWN FROM GUTHRIE STREET now shines brightest on the massive Adair County Judicial Center, center foreground, where metal work and insulation panels glisten in the early sun. Also visible in the photo are Columbiana (Russell/Lerman's) Building, the back of City Hall, Grissom-Martin Funeral Home, and the steeple at Columbia Christian Church. The window to the left of the utility pole is Diddle/Guthrie House, now being razed. The scene is a reminder of the gains and losses with each new step in progress: A more interesting skyline from Guthrie Street, offset somewhat by the blockage of the town view coming north on Campbellsville Street, leaving one to hope that, on balance, a greater good is gained in the process of growing.
