Random Drug Testing program Thursday at 6pm Starting January 2009, random drug testing takes on dramatic expansion; some parents may also enroll their children vountarily By Brenda Mann, Asst. Supt. of Student Services, Adair County School District The Adair County School District invites parents, students, school staff and the community to a Drug Education and Student Random Drug Testing Informational Meeting to be held on Thursday, December 11, 2008 at 6:00pmCT in the Adair County High School cafeteria. The Random Drug Testing Program is in its second year of implementation in the Adair County School District. In November, the Adair County School Board voted to expand the Random Drug Testing Program to include students in grades 6 through 12 who participate in all middle/high school extracurricular competitive activities and those that drive or park on school campus. Up to this point, the Program has been mandatory and continues to be mandatory for middle/high school cheerleaders and athletes. Beginning January 2009, the Program will be mandatory for students in grades 6 through 12 participating in competitive middle/high school extracurricular activities, that will not only include athletes/cheerleaders, but also students in band, school organizations/clubs (including academic teams, FFA, FBLA, FEA, FCCLA, HOSA, Beta, NHS, VICA, STLP and all other organizations/clubs that meet the random drug testing policy/procedure) and students who drive or park on school property. In addition to the mandatory Random Drug Testing Program, parents/guardians of students in grades 7-12 continue to have the opportunity to enroll their child(ren) as a volunteer participant of the Program. Students are only required to complete program enrollment paperwork once to be eligible to participate in all the expanded mandatory drug testing activities. Student athletes/cheerleaders currently enrolled in the Program are only eligible to participate in the activities under their current enrollment, therefore athletes/cheerleaders will be required to fill out new enrollment forms, so their enrollment will cover all the activities of the expanded program and all enrollees will be under the same guidelines. All new and current Program enrollees and their guardians are asked to attend the orientation meeting. For information about this meeting or the Random Drug Testing Program please contact Brenda Mann at 384-2476. This story was posted on 2008-12-10 16:41:30
