Welcome to Columbia Magazine

Reader, now frequent contributor, tells a little about himself

A brave newcomer and reader--now a frequent CM contributor--who has outspoken opinions, explains a bit about himself, even at risk of being recycled through Adair County Assimilation Academy. He holds some rather strange notions, but he sends a lot of pearls of wisdom worth considering, as well.

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

I have been to China and did not see Nixon. I have lived in Turkey where they loved Kennedy. I am new to the Bible Belt and do not use the King James version (Don't believe there is really such).

And yes, I could be labeled the village crank.

I believe smoking is the sin, not drinking--except to excess.

Ignorance can be cured but I'm not so sure about stupidity. I will try to control my emotions but will not stifle my beliefs based on education and intelligence.

I sincerely love the folks in Columbia, but they need to move on from prohibition and ethnocentrism to prosper in today's world.

I will make a gallant effort to behave myself, Ed.

When the 4-lane out there becomes I-66, I hope Columbia will take advantage of the business benefits and not continue to die back.

As Granpa McCoy said, "I've had my say"!

s/Charles Marshburn

Your courage is certainly appreciated. CM is dedicated to listening to many points view, including those of Charles Marshburn. Newcomers to this Paradise on Earth often want to change Adair County ways. They should be indulged and listened at, no matter how wrongheaded they may seem at times. We've found some real pearls among their ideas, including Charles Marshburn's idea to be able to enjoy a glass of wine with meals, and his notion of having healthier choices on our menus. -EW
