Columbia City Council report for Nov. 3, 2008 meeting

Election eve meeting is very brief. City gets preview of 2007-08 audit, gets utilities departments' technical reports, and approves aid to C-AC airport.

Last night's November Columbia City Council meeting was brief as is usually the case on election eve meetings for the body.




Council approves payment to help C-AC Airport

The Council unanimously approved Mayor Pat Bell's recommendation to pay $816.38 for one half the closing cost on a Columbia-Adair Airport loan which was used for interim financing on a new 10-plane hangar at the facility.

Council gets draft of 2007-2008 audit

The Council was briefed on the draft copy of city audit for the 2007-2008 fiscal year from Henderman, Jessee & Company.

CPD gets grant for bullet proof vests

Chief of Police Mark D. Harris reported that the Columbia Police Department had received a $2,800 grant for bullet proof vests.

Council gets utilities reports

The Council received utilities technical reports for the month of September 2008:
  • The gas department reported gas sales of $42,806.71 for the month, vs. $29,935 in gas purchases.

  • Reflecting the current economic situation, the water department reported an unusually high number of termination notices, 50, for the month of September, vs only 38 reconnects. The water department unaccounted for water was 29% for September.

  • The dry month of September proved a blessing for the city's sewer department, with the sewer plant showing billings of 170% of the number of gallons treated.
ACHS Band praised

Councillor Craig Dean reminded the Council of the pride the community takes in the success of the Adair County Marching Band in State Competition.

Dana Walker praise for City Street Department relayed

Councillor Linda Waggener relayed a thank you from Dana Walker to the City for the help city departments had given for the hugely successful Treats on the Town held in Downtown Columbia on Halloween.

Over 2,000 kids took part, according to Walker, who singled out the City Street Department and City of Columbia Poice Department for their help with the program.

Light attendance

There was light attendance. All City Council members were present, as well as Assistant City Clerk Sonja Roy, City Attorney Marshall Loy, City Police Chief Mark Harris, City Sewer Working Supervisor Bo Murphy, Citizen Roy Rademacher, and members of the media.
