LWC will honor four alumni at 77th homecoming

Lynda Wilkerson, Drew Burwash, Cecil Todd, and John Chowning will receive special awards at Alumni Homecoming Banquet, November 8, 2008

The Lindsey Wilson College National Alumni Association will honor four alumni when the college's celebrates its 77th Alumni Homecoming Weekend, to be held November 7-8, 2008.

The four alumni will be honored at the annual Alumni Homecoming Banquet, to be held at 11:30amCT on Saturday, November 8, 2008, in Roberta D. Cranmer Dining and Conference Center.



Also on November 8, the college will hold the annual homecoming parade; a golden reunion will be held for the Classes of 1957-59; and reunions will be held for the classes of 1962-64, '67-69, '77-79, '87-89 '97-99.

The weekend also includes the eighth-annual Morris Shepherd Ping Pong Tournament on November 7; the Running with the Blue Raiders run/walk on November 8; and basketball games all day long on November 8. The 2008 LWC Homecoming king and queen will be crowned on November 8 between LWC women's and men's basketball games, around 3:30onCT in Biggers Sports Center.

In addition to the 5,000-kilometer run/walk, the college will once again offer "Family Fun Time at the Quadrangle" on November 8.

"We are extremely excited about Homecoming 2008 at Lindsey Wilson College," said Lindsey Wilson Director of Alumni Relations Randy Burns. "I can't wait to meet the Lindsey Wilson alumni who will return to 'the Hill' to visit with their classmates, friends, and former professors and staff members."Homecoming is such an exciting time, and I look forward to being a part of it. At the same time, I look forward to hearing ideas from alumni and current students about how we can make this event at Lindsey Wilson even better."This year's Lindsey Wilson homecoming features two events create for families - the 5K the Running with the Blue Raiders run/walk and "Family Fun Time at the Quadrangle."

The 5K race/walk will begin at 8:00amCT. In addition to the road race and walk, it also will include a race for children. Registration begins at 7:30amCT in the Academic Success Center, which is located between the Holloway Building and Horton Hall.

The "Family Fun Time" will be held once again on the Campus Quadrangle behind the L.R. McDonald Administration Building. The event, which will include lunch stands, includes special activities for children created by students in LWC recreation classes. It is open to the general public as well as alumni and their family members.

Also during the weekend, the Lindsey Wilson men's basketball team will play two home games and the women's basketball team will play one game.

The women's basketball team will play Robert Morris (IL) College at 2:00pmCT on November 8.The men's basketball team will play Mid-Continent (KY) University at 8pmCT on November 7 and then Bluefield (VA) College at 4:00pmCT on November 8.

The 2008 Homecoming king and queen will be crowned between the women's and men's basketball games on November 8.The four Lindsey Wilson alumni to be honored at Saturday morning's banquet are:
  • Drew Burwash of Columbia, KY: A 1994 LWC graduate, Burwash will receive the Young Alumnus Award for his success as an intercollegiate soccer coach, including the last six years as head coach of the LWC women's soccer program.

  • John Chowning of Campbellsville, KY: A 1971 LWC graduate, Chowning will receive the Special Achievement Award for his service to higher education in Kentucky.

  • Cecil W. Todd of Killeen, TX: A 1959 LWC graduate, Todd will receive the Distinguished Service Award for more than 25 years as an educator and his service to the Lindsey Wilson National Alumni Association.

  • Lynda Wilkerson of Columbia, KY: A 1978 LWC graduate, Wilkerson will receive the Distinguished Alumna Award for her service in the mental-health profession.
"All four of these individuals epitomize the Lindsey Wilson spirit," Burns said. "They have made this college proud because they have distinguished themselves in their respective professions and served as role models to others."

Homecoming weekend activities get under way at 8:00amCT on November 7 with the annual Alumni and Friends Golf Scramble, to be held at Pinewood Country Club in Columbia. Entrants who do not have a four-player team will be connected with other players to form a team.
