Obama beats McCain 60-43 in mock election at AYDC

By Sue McQueary

Adair Youth Development Center held a mock election on Friday October 24th to give residents an opportunity to understand the voting process. In addition to all residents getting the opportunity to vote, all employees in the building were also allowed to vote. The final result of the vote was Obama 60 and McCain 43.

All teachers are involved in lessons and activities that enhance understanding of the process. Gerald Hadley, social studies teacher is teaching lessons that include background information on both candidates, letting students watch the debates and discuss issues, and understanding the electoral college.

In John Walker's language arts classes, the residents are writing reflection papers on the election and debates as well as the issues that are coming to the forefront in this election.

Wes Irvin's math classes are working on graphs and percentages dealing with the outcome of the mock election.

We would like to express our gratitude to Sheila Blair and Terry Moore for taking their time to give the residents at Adair Youth Development Center this experience.
