Obituary: Josephine Denton, 88

Mrs. Denton was the head of a large, respected Sano Community family, a member of Free Union Separate Baptist Church, and a homemaker

Josephine Denton, 88, of 1274 Rooks-Denton Road, Columbia, KY, (the Sano Community in Adair County) passed away Saturday, October 25, 2008 at 11:33amCT at the Westlake Regional Hospital Emergency Room in Columbia, KY after several weeks illness.

The funeral service is Tuesday, October 28, 2008 at 1:00pmCT at the Free Union Separate Baptist Church, with Bro. Jim Goff and Bro. Casey Davis the officiating clergy.



She was, born June 24, 1920, the daughter of the late Waymon and Minnie Susan Curry Burton of Adair County.

She was the widow of James Russell Denton, who preceded her in death onAugust 3, 1983.

Survived by the following:
  • Five sons: Leonard Denton, Jimmy Denton and wife Juanita; Billy Denton and wife Fayrene; J.W. Denton and wife Mitchelene; Freddie Denton and wife Sharlet all of Columbia, KY

  • Three daughters: Sandra Bryant and husband Willard; Minnie Smith and husband Barry; Marty Ellis and husband Jimmy all of Columbia, KY

  • Thirteen grandchildren and 14 Great Grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends
Mrs. Denton was preceded in death by three brothers, Everett Burton, William Burton, and Oliver Burton and by twp sisters, Eva Cowan and Elizabeth Kridner. He was also preceded in death by a grandson, David Wayne Denton, in 1976.

Mrs. Denton was a longtime member of the Free Union Separate Baptist Church and a homemaker. Interment will be in the Free Union Cemetery.
