By Sue C. Stivers, Membership & Public Relations Chairman

The Westlake Regional Hospital Auxiliary met Monday, October 20, 2008, at 6:30pmCT at the Hospital Cafe for their monthly meeting. President Margaret Sparks called the meeting to order by welcoming those in attendance. We were happy to welcome Tim Smith, guest speaker for the evening.

Minutes read by Lila Loy

The minutes of the past meeting was read by Lila Loy in the absence of Secretary Sharon Harris. The financial report was given by Treasurer Evelyn Phelps.

Volunteers needed in gift shop

President Sparks announced that the hours of Dorothy Murray, Experience Workers Program, who works in the gift shop had been cut from 20 hours to 18 hours per week. In order to have the gift shop open more hours each week to the public, volunteer workers are needed. Auxiliary members were encouraged to come and work if only 2 hours per week. The new selection of "Rada" knives has been received along with the shipment of Pecans from the 2008 crop.

Pecans go on sale at Glamour-Ette Beauty Salon

The pecans are on sale at the gift shop and also at Glamour-Ette Beauty Salon at 103 Campbellsville St. The Auxiliary appreciates Nancy McKinney for volunteering to sell the pecans. It is an act of kindness which she has done for the past several years. Proceeds from the pecans and gift shop go to purchase needed supplies for the hospital. The Auxiliary thanks everyone who supports their projects.

Cards go to members

Cards were signed by the members and will be sent to Barbara Barnes and Edna Yarberry, two of our dear members Both were in the Hospital at the time of the Auxiliary meeting.

LWC Art Professor gives presentation

Tim Smith, Art Professor at Lindsey Wilson College, gave an interesting and informative presentation on Art appreciation. His power point presentation gave examples of beautiful paintings by well-known artisans that depict the art components: subject, media, form and content.

Members gained a greater appreciation for the arts, by gaining a better understanding of artisans, their creative talents and inspirations. We were made to realize to a greater degree that the better understanding we have of art principles and design, the higher quality of life we can experience through artisans.

A special "thank you" to Tim Smith for giving of his time, talents, expertise and resources with the Auxiliary members. We are most grateful.

Thanks for delicious food

Those enjoying the delicious food prepared by Lila Loy and Sharon Harris were: Charles Barnes, Pauline Davenport. Betty Flaynik, Mary Hadley, Marilyn Hunter, Lila Loy, Charles and Yvonne Marshall, Evelyn Phelps, Shirley Reliford, Tim Smith, Margaret Sparks, Sue Stivers, Betty Thorsen, Mary Evelyn Walker, and Eva Wilkinson.
