LWC to host Safe Halloween October 30, 2008 for area kids

This year marks 15th Annual Safe Halloween at Lindsey Wilson College

By Duane Bonifer, LWC Director of Public Relations

Halloween begins a day early this year for children in Southcentral Kentucky. On Thursday October 30, 2008, from 6:00pmCT to 8:00pmCT, Lindsey Wilson College will hold its annual "Safe Halloween," an annual event that gives trick-or-treaters from around the region a chance to collect candy in Lindsey Wilson's residence halls.

Parents and guardians can bring children to the Lindsey Wilson Cralle Student Union Building lobby.

There is no cost to attend the event.Lindsey Wilson students will lead children and their parents or guardians through residence halls, where residents will hand out candy. It takes about 40 minutes to process through the college's residence halls.

This year's "Safe Halloween" will be the 15th consecutive year Lindsey Wilson has hosted the event of for the region's children. The annual event is one of the more popular activities on campus - and not just for area children.

"Our students look forward to this night as much as the children do because our students love to decorate their halls and dress up in costumes," said Lindsey Wilson Director of Residence Life Andy McAllister.

McAllister would know. He's worked the event as both a student and as a Lindsey Wilson employee.

"It's a great way to involve our students in the community and teach them the importance of giving back," McAllister said.

"Safe Halloween" lives up to its name.

"Parents enjoy this night because they know that Lindsey Wilson will create a safe environment for their children," said Lindsey Wilson Director of Student Activities Bobbie Owen. "And the kids like it because for less than an hour of walking, they can make an impressive haul of candy."
