Obituary: Gladys Burton Powers, 85

Mrs. Powers was a member of a respected Adair County family and of the Baptist faith. She was retired from the Indiana Army Ammunition Plant.


Gladys Burton Powers, age 85 of 268 Holladay Cemetery Road, Columbia, KY passed away Thursday, October 16, 2008 at 7:03amCT at her home.

The funeral service is Saturday, October 18, 2008, at 10:00amCT at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg ST, Columbia, KY. Bro. Todd Akin is the the officiating clergy.



She was born November 3, 1922 the daughter of the late Willie J. and Nancy Jane McQueary Burton and the widow of Carl Edward Powers who preceded her in death in 1990.

Survived by the following:
  • Two sisters: Shirley Bryant and her husband Dickie of Columbia, KY; and Pinkie Lee of Cincinnati, OH

  • Two brothers: Sherman Burton of Columbia, KY, and Wallace Burton of Louisville, KY

  • And host of nephews, nieces and caretakers and friends
She was preceded in death by the following brothers and sisters: Woodruff Burton, Vertis Burton, Marvin Burton, Carl Burton, Hattie Hollins, Arleter Burton, Veneitta Burton

She was retired from Indiana Army Ammunition Plant and was of the Baptist faith.

Visitation after 2:30pmCT, Friday, October 17, 2008, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home.In lieu of flowers expression of sympathy may take the form of a donation to Alzheimer's Association and may be made at the funeral home.

Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
