Cory Slone, Russell Springs, KY, earns scholarship to attend SCC

Cory Wayne Slone of Russell Springs in Russell County was awarded the 2008 KCTCS Commonwealth Scholarship to attend Somerset Community College.

The KCTCS Commonwealth Scholarship was established by the Kentucky Legislature in 1988 to encourage Kentucky's top scholastic achieving students to attend college in Kentucky.



The scholarship is for students who graduate in the top quartile of their class. Students earning the Commonwealth Scholarship may earn a second year award if they successfully complete 24 credit hours at a KCTCS institution and maintain a 3.0 GPA.

Slone graduated from Russell County High School in 2008 with a 3.85 grade point average. He ranked Twenty-first in his graduating class of 190.

Slone will be majoring in Civil Engineering at SCC.

Slone attends Friendship Baptist Church.

He is the son of Mick and Heather Slone of Russell Springs, Kentucky.
