NORTH 61: Writer worries about intersection design To ColumbiaMagazine.com: Since we are discussing South 61. I would like to talk about the section of North 61 that has just been completed. I would very much like to know the name of the State Engineer who designed the new section previously called the "Y" -- the road that connects Greensburg ST, Hudson ST, and Greensburg RD. As far as I am concerned it is foolishly designed and very dangerous. Not only does it drop to a one-lane road it then has a sharp curve with a sudden stop. I had believed that once the Bypass opened that it would help with alot of congestion around town, but it looks like that congestion is now going to be on the Greensburg side of town. What is going to happen when the Bypass opens and they have the right of way. Traffic is going to have to stop at all the stop signs that have been placed on Greensburg St ( for example, when there is school traffic) and there is going to be a buildup on the one-lane road, pretty much bringing traffic to a halt for those going towards Greensburg. What kind of design is that? How does that help make our roads safer? All you have to do is go out there and you will see the tire marks from the people who weren't able to slow down in time for the curve and sudden stop. How is an eighteen wheeler suppose to make the turn towards Greensburg from that stop sign? Maybe I'm not looking at it right, maybe it is workable, but I don't see how. s/Misty Claywell This story was posted on 2008-10-07 16:36:53
