LWC Women Golfers leads at Trevecca Krista leads team with 4 over par 76 By Chris Wells, LWC Sports Information Director Despite early struggles, the Lindsey Wilson College women's golf leads at the halfway point of the Trevecca Nazarene (TN) University Fall Invitational at Ravenwood Country Club. The Blue Raiders shot a team total of 323 to lead Bethel (IN) College by two strokes after today's opening round. University of Mobile (AL) is third following a 335. The round began rather ominously as the Blue Raider quintet carded a combined nine double and triple bogeys in the first six holes. But the Lindsey Wilson five rebounded in the middle portion of the round combining eight birdies. Lindsey Wilson junior Krista Burton led the Blue Raiders with a four-over par 76 (39-37) over the 5,843 yard hilly terrain. After opening with a par, Burton carded two double bogeys and bogey over the next three holes to find herself five over after four holes. Burton -- who is in fifth place -- birdied holes seven and eight en route to a 39 on the front nine. A birdie and six pars highlighted a 37 on the inward nine for a 76. Junior Jessica Smith opened her round four over through three holes before recording four birdies on the round to card an opening round 79 (38-41). Smith is seventh following the opening round. Sophomore Chelsey Key is tied for 11th after carding three birdies en route to an 83 (44-39). Senior Aline Decker is tied for 14th with an 85 (42-43) and junior Tracy McClain is tied for 34th with a 95 (46-49). Marian (IN) College's Angela Gauck leads the tournament after a one-under par 71. Lee (TN) University's Rachel Ingram is second with a 73 and Mobile's Meagan Rice (74) and Bethel's Shanna Page (75) round out the top five. The final round is schedule to begin at 7:30amCT at Ravenwood. This story was posted on 2008-10-07 02:54:16
