October is Family History Month

Three big events scheduled for October. 1) Janet Marcum quilt program 2) Genealogy workshop with historian Mike Watson, and 3) "Silent City" program

October is "Family History Month" and genealogists everywhere have adopted this month as their own. Whether you are new to geneaolgy or have devoted a lifetime to it, celebrate "Family History Month" with your family at the Adair County Public Library.



  • On October 6, 2008, at 6:00pmCT, Janet Marcum will be talking about her WWII quilt that she and her father created. Each quilt block has a very unique story and Janet is a wonderful storyteller.

  • October 13, 2008 at 5:00pm will feature a workshop with Mike Watson, Adair County Geneaology Members, Adair County Public Library staff and staff from the County Court Clerks office who will help with your search for your family roots. If you have ever been curious about your family but don't know where to start, then this is the workshop for you. The workshop is free and will last approximately two hours. The library will unveil the new Adair County Family Surname Book at this event.

  • The "Silent City Tour" will take place on October 27, 2008, at 5:00pmCT This is a guided historical tour of the Columbia City Cemetery and will feature Z.T. Williams, James Milam, Col. Frank Wolford, Nathan Gaither, Georgia Reed Shelton, Oliver Patteson and others. Please be at the library and ready to go by 5:00pmCT. Parking may be limited so please park across the street at Quality Personel or in the top lot of the old Harvey-Ellis Dealership.
