Feedback: Camp Casey provides after-school program

Response to: Reader wants Latch Key program in Adair County

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

A program such as the writer described does exist at one of the local schools.

Col. Wm. Casey offers an expansive after-school program for students in grades K-3 at Col. Wm. Casey Elementary and John Adair Intermediate, called Camp Casey. It is open to all students in these grades at the two schools. Programs are offered in core content subject areas, health and wellness, arts and crafts, and more.

The program is conducted by both certified and classified staff from the school system along with community volunteers from local agencies and Lindsey Wilson College.

This program is funded through the 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant secured by the school four years ago. This grant is available through the Kentucky Department of Education to both school and community organizations. It provides ample funding for a quality educational program.

For more information regarding the program at Casey you may contact Dana Harmon, Director at 384-3367 or at: dana.harmon@adair.kyschools.us.

For information on how to apply for the funding to expand this program to other schools and agencies you may contact: linda.robinson@education.ky.gov.

s/Patty Jones, Principal, Col. Wm. Casey Elementary School
