Circle R Putt Putt Golf Course nearing completion

2008-09-28 - 712 Russell Road, Columbia, KY - Photo By Ed Waggener.
RALPH FOLEY was putting finishing touches on Hole #2 at the new Miniature Golf Course being installed at the new Circle R BBQ Plus Catfish, as Charles Kerr, Flooring Specialist and Home Improvements contractor, looks on. Kerr, who has worked with CR owner Michael Lee Stephens for almost 10 years, says that he'll have the 18-hole miniature golf course complete within one-two weeks. No firm date has been set for the restaurant, but Spring 2009, in time for the warm weather tourist season, is often cited as a time when the unique restaurant concept will be added to the Columbia food scene. Latest additional prospects for the evolving project: An enclosed, climate controlled dining room, breakfasts featuring country ham biscuits, smoked fish, and a $1 menu to compete with fast food places. In the background, above, is the building which once housed Hill Oil Co.

Insects of Kentucky: Yellowjacket

2008-09-28 - Photo By Pen.
CLOSE UP OF A GUY captioned "An unwelcome guest"--look at them mean eyes.--by the photographer; Yellowjackets are aggressive and can sting repeatedly. For most people, the stings are only painful, but for a few, who are allergic, they are dangerous. What's the use of yellojacket? According to Wikipedia--and a good point to remember when second guessing the why of one of God's creatures--they prey on pest insects. For panphobiacs who would like to add the specific fear name to their vocabulary, fear of yellow jackets comes under the more common term Spheksophobia., or "fear of wasps." Flickr. 2008-09-28 - Westlake Regional Hospital .
HELPING KIDS: Cindy Meyer, Assistant Administrator of Westlake Regional Hospital, presents a check to Rick Wilson, Adair County Coroner, for the Helmets for Kids Program. The program promotes ATV safety and helmet use when riding an ATV. The Adair County Child Fatality Review Team provides free ATV/Motorcycle helmets to any child under 18 and is a resident of Adair County. In 2008 we have already given away 118 helmets. We want to continue the program and this commitment from Westlake Regional Hospital will help out tremendously. If you need a helmet, give me a call at 378-1490 or email at rickgwilson@alltel.net. -RICK WILSON. A Today September 28, 2008, Feature photo
