Adair Water District bills can now be paid online An the water taste problem, caused by drought and algae bloom in Green River Lake, will see rapid improvement, ACWD Water District Manger Lenny Stone says By Ed Waggener Adair County Water District customers can now pay water bills online with credit cards, Lenny Stone, Adair County Water District Manager, announced today. To pay bills, simple click on Adair County Water District. Customers need make only one more click to get to a page where water bills can be paid with credit cards. "We expect a lot of people to find paying online more convenient," Mr. Stone said. "Believe it or not, the first day it was online, even before we announced it," we received our first payment on the internet." Water should be tasting better Mr. Stone said that water should be tasting better soon. The off taste and smell of water from the Columbia-Adair County Water Plant should be improving. The tast is caused by an algae bloom in the lake. The plant is using adding activated carbon to the treatment prosess. Mr. Stone said that the activated carbon absorbs compounds created and released by the algae bloom that create the bad taste. "New water being produced at the plant and now entering the distribution system tastes 90% better," Mr. Stone said. The algae bloom can occur anytime there are drought conditions, as there has been in Kentucky during the past month. "A weather can will greatly improve the change of the water,'" he said. The treatment being used by the Columbia Adair County Water Plant is the basic one used by water plants to combat the algae bloom problem everywhere, he said. The Columbia-Adair County Water Commission, which oversees the plant, has five members: Rudy Higginbotham, Chairman; Junior Brown, Vice Chairman; Robert Flowers, Secretary/Treasurer, Larry Legg, and June Parson.
