ACMS student honors soldier with poem

By Alma Rich, Principal, Adair Co. Middle School

Mr. Billy (Douchy) Matthews' 7th grade social studies classes recently wrote poems honoring their heroes.

Krystal Rivere, granddaughter of Charlene Hampton and Joe Burton, submitted the following poem that she wrote. Her motivation was a relative, Adam Burton, who is currently serving in Iraq and was recently home on a short leave:

"A Young Soldier"

Proud, strong
Takes care of our country
Leadership, army
He stands for freedom
Not afraid to die.

Serves as a soldier
Fights in Iraq
He's there for me.
He serves for men, women, and children.
He's my hero.
By Krystal Rivere, 7th grade, Adair County Middle School
