Yard sales are about getting together with neighbors By Barbara Armitage Saturday morning I drug myself out of bed at o'dark thirty filled my pockets with quarters and one dollar bills and headed out in search of treasures at the annual Labor Day City wide yard sales. My very first stop yielded new crib sized sheets for the toddler beds my puppies sleep on - then I found a lovely old Kelly green bottle just right for my bottle tree and my expenditures were still under $2.00. That's when a brightly colored sign caught my eye and I found myself at Alice Wheeler's yard sale. She, her daughter and daughter-in-law and a few friends had thrown in together for a yard sale and believe me they had one of everything. What I really liked about Alice and her associates were the smiles and welcoming "Good Mornings". Those happy faces must have attracted others too because the yard was full of shoppers. Of course I found an arm load of stuff I didn't need and couldn't live without. I mean who could pass up a big hand full of Marti Gras beads for only $2.00? Yard Sales are as much about getting together with the neighbors and meeting new friends as they are about getting someone to buy your "stuff". This story was posted on 2008-09-01 10:05:28
