    Taking advantage of some beautiful Labor Day weekend weather Steve Bottoms, Hodgenville, KY; Mike Horn, Hodgenvvile, KY, and Scott Bottoms of Howe Valley, KY, made a stop in Columbia this morning. The three and their passengers all were aboard magnificent Honda Goldwing trikes, each with its own travel trailer. They were headed for Mt. Mitchell, NC. the highest peak in the Appalachian Mountains and the highest mountain in the Eastern United States. The round trip would take them almost a thousand miles.

    Milton & Helen: Big tomatoes, with taste

    Champion Tomato Gardeners Milton and Helen Stephens have some exceptionally good, quite big tomatoes this year. The yellow, one, above, has been sliced and sampled in The Epicurean Kentuckian kitchen and taste and texture were the equal or better than any Big Boy red tomato tasted this year. A lot of yellow tomatoes look good, but are too soft and bland. This one was perfection.

    Larry Smith took two pictures on Main Street in Campbellsville, KY, and writes: "We are so excited about the renovation of the Old Merchants Hotel. The hotel is undergoing a major renovation. Will and Karen Patton have purchased the historic hotel on main and will be returned to it's orginal look from 100 years ago. The Hotel on main street will soon celebrate it's 100th anniversary and it will be open again! This has to be a dream come true for our historians and residents of Campbellsville as Main street is showing many signs of a major come-back." The photo on the left looks out from the hotel to the sister station of WHVE, FM 92.7, the WAVE's, WVLC, the Big Dawg radio station. The picture on the right shows a doorway at the Old Merchants' Hotel.
