ACHS FFA competes at State Fair

By Tamara Corbin, ACHS FFA Reporter

The Adair County FFA Meats Judging Team traveled to the Kentucky State Fair on August 14-15, 2008 to compete in the state contest. The contest was held at Freedom Hall. Many different cuts of meat were brought in from a local meat processor.

The team includes Jacey Cary, Katie Royse, Meranda Quinn, and Tamara Corbin. The team's advisor is Kirby Hancock.

Students were responsible for identifying thirty different retail cuts of beef and pork. A portion of the contest also included judging several classes of beef ribeyes, pork loins, and hams. Students also had to grade several wholesale cuts using USDA quality and yield grades.
