Letter: Dr. Smith suggests taking chain down during day About response to letter: "No Entrance sign at Columbia cemeter" Ed: Very good response! We should all take notice of the good job of this committee and how nice the cemetery always looks. I am aware of the past problems, but I think our police department can correct this. Perhaps the chain could be taken down at 9:00 o'clock each day. I don't think anyone can get out to Campbellsville Street in the afternoon! You're going to have to remember that we country folks and some of your analogies are very deep. I must confess i had to google the hidden meaning to some of the 'big words." Thank goodness I found them or I would have needed to consult with your little brother. Please accept this as all in good fun.Keep up the good work. s/Roger D. Smith, DMD Thanks so much, Dr. Smith. I think you are right that the Columbia Police Department , Mark D. Harris, Chief, is very capable of keeping vehicle traffic under control. And you're right that the chain might be put up at night and taken down each morning. I'd favor a 5 or 10mph speed limit through the cemetery and a 15mph speed limit on Wall Street to protect residents. As for noise, zero tolerance would be appropriate. As for littering, the CPD could throw the book at anybody who throws out so much as a cigarette butt. I agree too, that it's a tough question. But surely in this great community a workable solution could be found. The present one, with the chain, is a bit embarrassing to a community seeking to attract visitors. -EW.
