Columbian helping assure safety at KY State Fair

Deputy State Fire Marshals Charles Sparks and Chris Crawford are busy inspecting over 300 propane tanks used by vendors to assure safety of sellers and attendees

Good food and lots of people are the mainstays for the Kentucky State Fair in Louisville Kentucky this next 14 days. Deputy State Fire Marshal Charles Sparks of Columbia, KY, and Deputy State Fire Marshal Chris Crawford were busy inspecting over 300 propane tanks used for cooking gas at the numerous vendors that have fryers or grills with open flames.

"It is important to keep the tanks secure from accidentally falling over or getting hit," Deputy Marshal said. "Looking at these is a vital part of our jobs as hazardous materials inspectors with the State Fire Marshals Office at special events or routine day to day operations."The large number of people at the fair and all of the tanks present a significant hazard so it is important for the spectators that safety is a major concern.
