Gas question: Does premium gas get better mpg?

To ColumbiaMagazine.com

For the past several months I have been wondering about the feasibility of purchasing premium gas over regular gas. Since I can remember there has always been close to 10 cents a gallon differance in price among the three grades of fuel.

This amazes me that the octane cost has been constant even with the cost of oil more than tripling.

By simple math and using a vehicle that averages 20 miles per gallon, one would have to realize an increase of ten percent on the mpg to benefit by buying premium gas.

If anyone who travels to work out of town that is willing to test this theory and report back to CM, it could benefit all your readers.

I travel quite a bit, but have a 12 MPG diesel truck! Wouldn't it be nice if premium gas increased the average mpg 15-20 per cent!
