Letter: Problem on school supplies list in Taylor, too

About: Letter: Comment on Parental Burden buy school suppliesTaylor schools dress code made back to school costs even greater, writer says.

To ColumbiaMagazine.com

I'm in total agreement with Bre. My granddaughter is in the Taylor County school system and went thru a nightmare.

The school handed out the dress code for this year at the end of last school term and also had it printed in the local paper.

After spending a small fortune on supplies as Ms. Bolin indicated, my granddaughter's parents also had the huge expense of outfitting a growing sixth grader for the school year.

On opening day she along with quite a few others were called to the office and told their apparel did not meet the code.

Turns out a few teachers got together just before the new school year and had the code changed.

Now they not only have the expense of clothes approved on mid summers list but also the scramble and expense of rushing out to buy all new outfits.

It sure appears that some of these long term tenured teachers are out of touch with the realities faced by young couples in todays economy.
