Alan Reed reports at 8:15pm that drowning victim still not found

Wayne County Rescue, the only unit in the region with boated mounted, side-scan sonar, called in to aid in search for missing swimmer at Arnold's Landing on Green River Lake, near Knifley, KY
From Alan Reed, WHVE FM 92.7 the WAVE

Just a quick update. About an hour ago, at approximately 8:15pmCT, Monday night, August 4, 2008, the body had not been found.

I guess you know that Wayne County Rescue had been called in. They're the only outfit, regionally, with a boat mounted, side-scan sonar. This can be used day or night.

Also, the water depth in the specific area is only about 15-20 feet.As a certified diver, I can tell you that from personal experience the visibility at the site would be about a foot and that divers could easily experience spatial disorientation and search basically resorts to "feel." The upper regions of the lake amount to a settling basin with high sediment load from the Green River and divers experience VERY poor visibility.

Visibility is very restricted even north of Holmes Bend. Diving conditions arent conducive to SARs on this lake, period.

Some of the agencies involved are:
  • Local Emergency Services
  • State Emergency Services
  • KY Fish and Wildlife
  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
  • Knifley Area Volunteer Fire Dept.
  • Adair Co. Sherriffs Office
  • Taylor Co. Rescue
  • Adair Search and Rescue
Just some stuff you might want to use from a SCUBA diver's perspective and a some data from the scene.
