With one photo

By Barbara Armstrong

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle we have all heard about the 3 R's but how does composting fit in?

Charon Gray, Master Gardener with the Adair County Garden Club presented Composting 101 or maybe it should be called Recycle 102 - the next step - at the Adair County Corporative Extension Office on Wednesday July 30th to an enthusiastic group of local gardener/environmentalists.

Composting is a process by which organic waste is reduced to a beneficial garden material making it a perfect way to Reduce the amount of chemicals used in gardening Reuse a product you have already purchased and Recycle unwanted items back into a useful and much needed organic fertilizer.

Interested gardener's learned the basics of establishing a compost, how to manage the process and ways to utilize the compost in their own gardens. Whether you live in an apartment and maintain a small container compost or you live in the country with large hills of working compost the process is easy, simple and beneficial.

If you missed this class watch Columbiamagizine.com for future opportunities to expand your knowledge of both gardening and the environment brought to you by the Adair County Garden Club.
