Heather Davis named LWC Women's area Coordinator She's a Russell Springs, KY, native and RCHS graduate By Duane Bonifer, LWC Director of Public Affairs Heather Davis wants to make sure that Lindsey Wilson College's more than 350 coeducational residential students learn outside of the classroom. That's why she and her staff have created numerous educational opportunities this upcoming school year for students who live in the college's residence halls. "We focus on residence life being an extension of the classroom rather something that's separate from it," said Davis, who was recently named LWC women's area coordinator for residence life. Davis - a 2005 LWC graduate with a bachelor of arts degree in Christian ministries - has a lot of experience in residence life. Before being named women's area coordinator for residence life, Davis served for three years as resident director of Phillips Hall, and before that she was a resident assistant for 1-1/2 years. A native of Russell Springs, KY, Davis is a 2001 Russell County High School graduate and is the daughter of Stephen and the late Shirley Davis. "Heather has served our students quite well in residence life," said LWC Assistant Dean of Students Curt Lee. "She is committed to the Lindsey Wilson mission and creating a vibrant living-learning environment for our students." As women's area coordinator for residence life, Davis oversees a professional staff of seven employees and 21 student resident assistants. In addition to meeting students' daily needs, Davis and her staff are also responsible for educational programs and initiatives that complement students' classroom experiences. Overall, Lindsey Wilson's residence life program covers 700 students who live in 10 residence halls and apartment communities. "We want to engage our residential students - especially the freshmen - the moment they walk on campus," Davis said. Davis said she was attracted to residence life because "I like solving problems."Earlier this summer, Davis helped two incoming LWC freshmen solve some problems. Nina Moore of Morganfield, KY, and Jen Tom of Lebanon, KY, met in their Phillips Hall room to determine which appliances and creature comforts they will bring to their room when they move in on August 16. The two learned from Davis the kind of mini-refrigerator that works best in a residence hall room, rules about placing items on the room's walls and how much latitude they have to redecorate their room. "I love changing lives and having an impact on students' lives," Davis said while the two freshmen discussed their living plans for the 2008-09 school year. "I like being a part of the college experience. College is such a transition for students, and it's such an important part of their lives." This story was posted on 2008-07-29 18:59:32
