The beautiful story of Emmett the water dog

Dumped by an unthinking ignoramus, little Emmett was rescued by the nice lady and man whose driveway entrance says, in dog language, "suckers live here." Emmett is now a part of a loving family, and is learning to enjoy Green River Lake safely

By Barbara Armitage

On Sunday, July 12th, on my way home from the fairgrounds, this precious puppy was running in the middle of Hwy 206 at Bull Run Road.

Someone had dumped the little guy. I can't express my thoughts about this type of person or just how irresponsible I find this action. If anyone has an unwanted pet, www.Columbiamagazine.com will connect them with someone who can give the pet a good home. It's that simple. I don't know why anyone would dump a little fellow like Emmet.

Lucky for little Emmett, I just happened to be driving past and stopped to rescue him. Now he is a part of the Tucker's Station Family and always will be.

Now, just two weeks later Emmett, is out on Green River Lake learning to be a water dog.

Emmett and his new Mom and Dad, Barbara and Wayne Armitage spent the afternoon boating with fellow "Fogy" Nancy Cozby.

While Emmett is just a bit young to be an official "Fogy" he does have the required amount of ear hair for an old man - maybe he can qualify as a mascot.

Our family wants to remind you that if you boat with your four-legged family members as we do please remember that they need to be fitted with life jackets just like the two-legged members.

A safe day on Green River Lake is the best kind of day.

If you didn't read the accompanying story, you might not realize who's training who. Emmett, right, is learning to safely swim the clear waters of Green River Lake, in guardianship of Wayne Armitage, the teacher.. The precious little puppy now has a secure home at Tucker's Station after being dumped on Hwy 206 at Bull Run Road, but was rescued before a tragedy might have happened.
