Overflow crowd attends Praise & Prayer service Saturday

2008-07-27 - Downtown Columbia, KY .
AN CROWD WHICH FILLED THE TENT set up for the Praise & Prayer on the Square event left standing room only for many in attendance. The event was a culmination of months of preliminary meetings which started at the edge of the county, with successive services closer and closer to the Square. A platform for the event was set up on a semi flatbed provided by Garrison Construction Co. A July 27, 2008, Today's Picture Album photo. Click Read More, Scroll to end of article for more photo

Scenic Metcalfe Co., KY: Footbridge and The Gum

2008-07-27 - East Fork,Little Barren River, Sulphur Well, KY - Photo By Ed Waggener.
SULPHUR WELL, on KY 70 in Metcalfe County, has been a tourist attraction for over a century, and draws big crowds, which seem to be bigger with the cost of fuel inspiring many to have holidays closer to home. At one time, the big attraction was the perceived health benefits from drinking the sulphur water which came from "The Gum," the artesian well in the left of the photo. Today more and more people come for quiet walks across the footbridge, picknicking, or to visit the capital of country ham, the Lighthouse restaurant, the Sulphur Well Country Store, or the town's newly opened souvenir shop. The town's biggest event is coming up soon, when the Third Sunday in August homecoming is celebrated. Owing to how one goes across the mountain, the distance is about 25 miles from Columbia, KY. Miss Addie & the Cat

2008-07-27 - Photo By Melissa Taylor.
"Miss Addie would not rest until she caught and held this cat--if only for a few seconds! Her great-aunt, Sue Cundiff, finally assisted her in her endeavors!" writes photographer Melissa Taylor, who did not give the dimensions of the big orange tabby cat, which seems to be a pretty good handful for Miss Addie. Scenic Adair Co., KY: Tobacco ready to top

2008-07-28 - Adair County, KY - Photo By Shamarie Claiborne.
"SOMEBODY TOP ME" is the caption for this photo sent by Shamarie Claiborne of burley tobacco in bloom. Regardless of anyone's policy on the end use of the product, few would argue that fields of burley tobacco in all its seasons add immensely to the beauty of Adair County, as this remarkable photo, "A Big Fave" Flickr selection, attests.
