2008 ACHS GIRLS GOLF SCHEDULE

By Kim Goodin

The 2008 Adair County High School Girls' Golf Team starts its 21-event schedule with a trip to Russellville on August 2, 2008, to play in the Russellville Invitational.

The August 2, 2008, tournament is the first of six we are definitely scheduled to appear in, with the possibility of a seventh when the Girls State Tournament is played October 6, 7, and 8, 2008 in Bowling Green, KY.

Entire roster returns

We return our entire team from last year: Lauren Goodin, Senior; Natalie Curry, Junior; Natalie Sneed, Junior; Emilee Royse, Freshman; Ashley Goodin, 8th grade; Abby Royse, 8th grade) plus we have added two new players Dea Brandon, Junior; Rachel Phipps, 7th grade.

I am expecting continued improvement this season. We finished with an overall record of 11-6 last year and had a 36 stroke drop in team average (197.6) over the previous year (233.8). Our pre-season practice average (180.6) has dropped another 17 strokes from last year. I sure hope we can keep that up.

Lone senior has played in several statewide tournaments

Our lone senior, Lauren, has played in several statewide tournaments this summer and had to compete at a higher level which should help her this season. She has dropped her average by three strokes from last year.

Two Natalies finished super strong

Natalie Sneed and Natalie Curry finished super strong last season and have dropped their averages during practice as well. I am expecting them to have a great year.

Ashley is improved

Ashley is much improved over last year dropping her average 6.8 strokes bumping her up to the two spot for our opening tournament.

Royses are greatly improved

Abby and Emilee have come on quick already showing drastic drops in their averages as much as eight or nine strokes.

Newcomers show tremendous promise

Our newcomers Dea and Rachel are showing tremendous promise. They have posted practice scores that would rival some of our beginners in the past.

Our scores have become really competitive among the team so our lineup will probably change back and forth through the season. We are playing in several tournaments this year and will really be put to the test. We open with two tournaments right off the bat without a regular match so it will truly test our mental toughness.

Russellviile event on same course as regional

Our first tournament will be at Russellville on Saturday, August 2nd. The Regional tournament will also be played on this course so it will give us an additional opportunity to play this course. It is a difficult course to appear to be wide open.

They have made some changes which have added to the difficulty. I hope we compete well because it would give us much needed confidence.

Hopefully, the weather will stay average and we will be able to play all our matches and tournaments. Last year several had to be cancelled due to the extreme heat conditions.

I am looking forward to see how we perform under true match and tournament conditions --- it should be a fun year!
