Special ColumbiaMagazine.com story
From the office of Adair CountySixth District Constable Jason Rector

Constable Rector attended Department of Criminal Justice Training and successfully completed all skills and written exams of the Basic Officer Skills Course covering high liability and critical areas of law enforcement; including Firearms Safety, Basic Marksmanship, Firing Range Exercises, Handgun Qualification, Defensive Driving Exercises, Defensive Tactics in handcuffing and searching of suspects, as well as Vehicle Traffic Stops in Low, Unknown and High Risk situations.

The area in which Constable Rector serves consists of Adair County Magisterial District 6, including the areas Cane Valley, Holmes Bend, Egypt, Knifley and Roley.

<Training was intense

Rector stated that it was an intense week of training and he obtained valuable learning experiences from the exercises. Constable Rector concluded the week, leaving DOCJT in Richmond and traveling to Louisville, to to attend an 8 hour course hosted by the Kentucky Constable Association conducted by The United States Deputy Sheriffs' Association in Tactical Entry/Room Clearance and Felony Traffic Stops. "The Tactical Entry Training gave us an introduction to room clearing and combat tactics for small units," Constable Rector said.

Elements of Dynamic, Stealth, and response to an active shooter were also covered and demonstrated. Constable Rector said that the USDSA training developed confidence in not one's self, but in fellow team members as well, teaching everyone to work together during that type of situation.

Training not required, but Constable Rector says untrained officers a safety concern

It is not required in Kentucky that Constables obtain any training, Constable Rector said. However Constable Rector stated "Someone untrained to handle any situation becomes not only a liability but also number one, a safety concern for me and the public in which I was elected to serve and protect."
