Inmate attempts escape six miles south of Columbia, KY

POLICE REPORTS

Prisoner was able to free herself from handcuffs

After a foiled attempt to escape, inmate Kelly Roop, 20, is in Adair County Regional Jail, facing a number of new charges.

The incident occurred at approximately 1:22pmCT, today, Wednesday, July 23, 2008, six miles south of Columbia, on KY 61, while Inmate Roop was being transported from Cumberland County.

Roop was able to free herself from handcuffs and attempted to escpte by overtaking another inmate being transported.



However, the transportation officer was able to detain the inmate until law enforcement arrived, at which time she was taken into custory without further incident.

Ms. Roop was charged with the followiing:
  • Attempted escape 1st degree
  • Kidniapping
  • Assault 2nd degree
  • Terroristic threatening, 3d degree
Kentucky State Police are investigating the incident.
