Concrete pour Friday to bring Crocus Creek Wall to full 12 Ft.

Earlier Photo: Start, Overview of Project

The third course of the 300 ft. long Crocus Creek Wall will be poured at around noon on Friday, July 18, 2008, if all goes as scheduled.

The concrete pour will bring the great wall to its full 12 foot height.

The announcement came from Lisa Lee for the office of Adair County Judge Executive Ann Melton.

The huge wall is being built to stop undercutting of the Melson Ridge Road by Crocus Creek. Funds to build the massive structure were authorized in the administration of Governor Ernie Fletcher.

Melson Ridge Road connects the Adair County communities of Inroad, at the foot of Dug Hill on KY 704 to Cundiff, KY, the capital of Melson Ridge located at the intersection of Melson Ridge Road and KY 900, and is part of the main road from Burkesville to Creelsboro.

After the great wall is complete, it will be backfilled to undergird Melson Ridge Road.

At present, there are no firm plans for a mini-park with an observation lawn on the fill. The view captures the gentle grandeur of the valley, one of the most pleasing sights in Adair County.

The construction site is in Adair County District Three, represented on Adair Fiscal Court by Squire Sammy Baker.

Construction of the wall is an in-house project of the Adair County Road Department, Jobe Darnell, Superintendent.

DAYTRIP DETAILSDIRECTIONSFrom Columbia Square, take Jamestown ST, (KY 55) south to Y with KY 704, take right fork onto KY 704 past Gadberry, Fairplay, Earl's Ridge, Hadley's Community Church, and down Dug Hill (can't miss it, it's long, steep, and crooked). At the foot of the hill, at Inroad, take a left. The work project is about a quarter mile up on the left. OR, from Hardscratch General Store in Glens Fork, 1) Stop and ask directions, or 2) On your own, take a right, (west) on KY 900. Go over Simpson Ridge, down into Hadley Valley, back up the long hill to Cundiff. At the Main Intersection in Cundiff, hook a right and travel nearly to the end of the road. If you get to KY 704, you have travelled too far. Go back to construction site.
