LWC mens basketball introduces game to area youth PHOTO By Chris Wells, LWC Sports Information Director In the bluegrass state, it's never too early to pick up a basketball. That's evident this week on Lindsey Wilson College's campus, as Blue Raider men's basketball team hosts the 2008 Junior Fundamental Basketball Camp.< br>"We offer a wide variety of camps to the youth of Adair County and the surrounding counties throughout the summer," Lindsey Wilson men's basketball assistant coach Chris Starks said. "This camp is another opportunity to promote the game of basketball by introducing, not only the true basics of the game, but the pure joy of playing. "In an age of PlayStation and X-Box, we wanted to offer parents another vehicle for their kids to be active while learning about the game that we love." The camp -- now in its third year -- offers basic fundamentals to ages 5-8 while emphasizing fun. Campers are introduced to a variety of basic aspects including dribbling, passing, shooting and footwork. "Our goal is to create an attitude of effectiveness with fun activities," Starks said. "We want them to learn, but more importantly we want to plant the seed of how great this game is and hopefully, that will develop into a love for the game." This week's camp is the third and final camp of the summer directed by the men's basketball program. More than 80 boys and girls participated in the three camps. The Junior Fundamental Basketball Camp runs through Wednesday, July 16, 2008. This story was posted on 2008-07-15 15:36:31
