Larry Smith sends picture of Berry Bridge opening PICTURE BERRY BRIDGE 1908 Historian Larry Smith, famous as the news anchor of WHVE, 92.7, The Wave, has tied together the story of Berry Bridge. Earlier, he sent a beautiful photo of the now closed bridge. Today, he sends a photo of the bridge when it was opened in 1908. He writes, "This photo dates back to 1908 and I'm sure that the people in this photo are neighbors and builders of the bridge. This is the same bridge that I photo'ed last week and posted on Columbia Magazine.com. The bridge has been closed since 1980." The bridge is now off limits to any traffic, even pedestrian. But it can be seen on a canoe trip down the Green River from Greensburg, KY, or, for those who aren't afraid of high ground, by going up Larry's favorite childhood climb, up Buckner Hill, continue on the main road to the left, and then following the road to its dead end at the old Berry Bridge (More detail directions would be appreciated).
