BERRY'S BRIDGE: A TRUE MARVEL:Larry Smith, the WAVE 92.7 FM radio news anchor and South Central Kentucky historian, sent this photo of a landmark bridge in his home county, and writes, "This is Berry's Bridge spanning the Green River on the other side of Buckner Hill in Greensburg, KY.This bridge closed in 1980 and the county placed it on the front page of the Greensburg Record Herald as 'Bridge for-sale' No one ever bought it. This is a true marvel that still stands but is no longer in use. The state deemed it unsafe." Road Eighty Bridge Day 285: Almost there!

2008-07-11 - Road Eighty East, Russell Creek Bridge, Columbia, KY - Photo By Ed Waggener.
NO. THE BIKERS DIDN'T COME ACROSS THE BRIDGE. Though it may be physically but not legally possible now, they actually were riding east, approached the bridge, waited a few minutes, then turned to take an alternate route. Workmen at the site say the bridge should be ready to turn over to Gaddie-Shamrock for final layer of blacktopping Monday or Tuesday, July 13, or 14, and that any day after that, the bridge may be ready to open to traffic. Guardrails are in place, and concrete side rails on the north side of the road are getting a coat of paint today. The south side is painted. The contractor is now late on completion, but just by a few days. Some touch-up work may continue under the bridge after it is open. The view is toward Russell Springs. The photo was taken at approximately 9:45amCT. Clicking Read more accesses the Today, Friday July 11, 2008 feature with the July 11, 2008 Today's Picture Album.
