Great Vacation Daytrip: To Lincoln Birthplace, Patton Museum

In just 151 miles, both ways, a wonderful day trip from Columbia, KY, gives chance to see Lincoln Birthplace and General George Patton Museum in Ft. Knox, with transformed Greensburg, to boot
With four photos

By Cathy Luttrell

With the high price of gas right now, most families can't afford a vacation too far from home.

So if we can find somewhere to go, both fun and educational, not too far from home, its a win-win situation.

Just last month, Jeremy and I went to Abraham Lincoln Birthplace in Hodgensville.

We also went to the Patton Museum at Fort Knox. He really enjoyed seeing all of the tanks and military stuff.

The Patton museum is free admission!!

If you've never been to the museum. it's really something to see.

They have items ranging from WWI up to Operation Iraqi Freedom and Afghanistan.
We really enjoyed the day.

Directions: The General George Patton Museum, 4554 Fayette Avenue, Fort Knox, Kentucky40121-0208. GoogleMap says its 75.1 miles from the Square, Downtown Columbia, KY. Driving directions

The Abraham Lincoln Birthplace is on the way if you go through Greensburg, KY, and see the amazing changes in what is now, easily, one of America's most beautiful small towns. Take KY 61 from the Square in Columbia, KY, through Greensburg to Hodgenville. Be sure to see the changes to downtown Hodgenville, while at Lincoln Birthplace.
