Gas Price Drumbeat: Does oil price affect gas price?

LETTERS & FEEDBACK

Reader wants to know why, regardless of oil price trends--up or down--why do pump prices seem to go relentlessly up in Columbia, KY

Ed:

I noticed the Yarberry brothers report on gas prices in Glasgow. Here is the question: During the last several days oil is down $10 per barrel. Meantime gas increased here in Columbia by 20 cents per gallon.

Maybe the price of oil doesn't affect the price of gas but the oil companies say it does. So when oil goes down, why does gas go up?

s/Gerald Doss

Good question. Got another: Why are the independents and country stores not being able to get new parts for pumps, and why are they not getting adequate deliveries? -EW
