Road Eighty Bridge closed for 281 Days today, July 7, 2008

Roads, Travel

Adair County Road Department maintenance report, Continuing work: The Adair County Road Department is now constructing a 300 ft. retaining wall on the bank of Crocus Creek at Inroad to shore up the Melson Ridge Road from Inroad to Cundiff, Melson Ridge, in District 3 of Adair County. The project is expected to take 45 days. Work started Monday, June 16, 2008. The project is being built with a $92,000 emergency grant from then Gov. Ernie Fletcher. It is the largest stream erosion project in all of Adair County Road Department history, and the largest in recent history since the Yuma Road Project in the last year of the Jerry Vaughan administration. Tourism Gazebo Dedicated

COLUMBIA MAYOR PATRICK R. BELL prepares to cut the ribbon on Columbia's new tourism gazebo located on the Jamestown Street Bank of Columbia bank lot in front of Wal-Mart. The ceremony took place at 9:00amCT, Monday, July 7, 2008. From left, above, are Lisa Lee, Administrative Assistant in the CJE's office; Columbia Streets Department Superintendent Donnie Rowe; Adair County Judge Executive Ann Melton; Mayor Bell; Adair County Streets Department Asst. Supt. Tim Smith; Columbia Adair County Chamber of Commerce Board Member and Past President Darrell Overstreet, and Sue Stivers, Executive Director of the Columbia-Adair County Tourism Commission, Executive Director of the Columbia-Adair County Chamber of Commerce, and Executive Director/Recruiter for the Columbia Adair County Industrial Development Authority. The Gazebo includes three changeable panels giving information on Lindsey Wilson College and other sites of interest. It will be open 24-7 year round. Signs at the Chamber office at 201 Burkesville ST, Columbia, will direct tourists to the center when the Chamber is closed. The facility was funded by a SEKTDA (South and Eastern Kentucky Tourism Development Association) grant. Executive Director Stivers serves on the Board of Directors of SEKTDA.
