SFC Baker was a decorated army veteran, of the Methodist faith, and was a Kentucky Colonel

SFC Clovis Baker, USAR, 71, Columbia, KY, died Saturday, June 14, 2008, at 1:05amCT at Westlake Regional Hospital after an illness.

The funeral service will be Tuesday, June 17, 2008, at 11:00am at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home, with Bro. Cleveland Johnson officiating.



He was born July 8, 1936, in Adair County, KY, to the late Sam and Zora Coomer Baker. Clovis was a decorated 20 year Veteran who served in both the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He was of the Methodist faith and was a Kentucky Colonel.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Easley Baker, and one sister, Opal Denny.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Lucille Sneed Baker, of Columbia, KY, and the following:
  • One son, Terry (Melissa) Baker, Glasgow, KY

  • Two daughters: Gerald (Arnold Ray) Fletcher of Russell Springs, KY, and Judy Baker of Frankfort, KY

  • Three grandchildren: Sarah Fletcher and Jared and Ally Thompson

  • One brother: Sammy (Nadine) Baker of Cundiff, KY

  • One sister: Lucille Taylor, Louisville, KY

  • Two brothers in law: Chester Sneed and James L. Sneed, both of Columbia, KY

  • And several nieces, nephews and a host of friends
Visitation will be after 4:00pmCT, Monday, June 16, 2008, at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville ST, Columbia, KY.

Casketbearers are Gerald Sneed, Arnold Fletcher, William Burton, Bill Nogar, David Martin, Tim Baker, Brent Baker, and Randall Sneed.

Honorary casketbearers are Dr. Phil Aaron, Alvin Sinclair, Bruce Hadley, Standley Barr, and Buddy Staton.

Grissom-Martin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
