Relay For Life June 13, 2008 full schedule

Includes chairpersons and Schedule for 2008 Relay for Life

By Ellen Zornes

Teams have been formed; money is being raised through all kinds of fun activities, T-shirts are being printed, survivors have registered, luminary forms are being circulated and Adair County is in high gear for our twelfth annual Relay For Life event taking place Friday evening, June 13, 2008 at Booster Football Field behind Adair County Middle School (the old high school). (Please see Schedule of Events below).

We are most appreciative of our Hope Sponsors: Bank of Columbia in memory of Margaret Baker, Glenn Keen and Cecil Turner; First and Farmers National Bank in memory of Lois Hutchison and Mary Wheeler; J. Downey and Sons Lumber, Inc. in memory of Barbara Jean Downey; Gaddie Shamrock in memory of Monie Beard, Marilyn Baker, Justin Rose and Charles Quinn; Rogers Trucking Company in Memory of Charles T. Robeers; IMO Pump; Westlake Team Care; Lindsey Wilson College, Cancer Awareness Classic; House of Styles in memory of Mary Nell Burton. Without their support, our Relay would not be the same.

Click here for Relay Luminary form online; forms are available from any Relay For Life team member. Luminary names and money will be accepted the night of the event as well. If you would like to have a picture of your loved one to be Honored or Memorialized as part of the Luminary Ceremony, please get a picture to Angie Dean at Bank of Columbia or Peggy Lawson at House of Styles.

"This year's event is undergoing a few changes that will make it better than ever. The all night event will be divided into three parts: Celebrate. Remember. Fight Back," explained Angie Dean, Event Chair. "Another major change this year involves our fundraising efforts. Teams will be able to continue fundraising all night with the total amount raised by the Relay announced early Saturday morning. Games will be played at each tent throughout the night and several teams will be selling food and drink items. Cake walks with homemade cakes will take place throughout the night and an auction will also be worked into the schedule of events. A new format for us, but one we think everyone will really like."

Steven Baker, co-chair added, "This year's theme will be lots of fun. It centers on game shows and Adair County will have its very own 'cheesy' game show host. We're also bringing back the ever popular Womanless Beauty Pageant, but it will be earlier in the evening so everyone can enjoy the fun."

"It certainly is not too late to make donations and be a part of this year's Relay event. Also new this year is the 'Quarter Lap.' Our goal is to line the track with quarters. So be saving those quarters and bring them on June 13. Our 2007 Relay For Life was very successful raising $110,000 for the American Cancer Society. We're excited about our plans for 2008 and can't wait for this year's Relay. This is the beginning of great things to come, said Angie Dean. For more information about our Relay event, just contact me at either 384-6433 or 384-4343."

Relay For Life is a community event and we need the entire community! You won't want to miss out on this year's event. Come join us as we Celebrate our survivorsRemember those who were dear to usand Fight Back to end cancer! Help us make 2008 Relay For Life the best ever!
