2008 General Election: Voter registration resumes tomorrow Getting ready for the Tuesday, November 4, 2008 General Election. Includes vote for New! President, U.S. Senate and Representative; 51st KY House seat. Three school board seats. All six city council seats. By Ed Waggener Registration to vote in Kentucky will resume on Wednesday, May 28, 2008, in the office of Adair County Court Clerk Sheila Blair in the Adair Annex building on the Square in Downtown Columbia. The books were closed from April 22, 2008 through May 27, 2008. Eligible citizens who are not already registered to vote in the general election to be held on Tuesday, November 4, 2008, may register at the Clerk's Office during regular business hours, Monday through Friday, from 8:00am to 4pmCT. The election will be one of the most important in the nation's history, as voters elect a new President, select between a brand new face, Bruce Lunsford (R) incumbent U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell (R); choose between Democratic challenger Heather Ryan and incumbent Ed Whitfield (R) for Kentucky First Congressional District U.S. Representative. In addition, voters will choose between Republican John "Bam" Carney and Democrat Doug Mullins for 51st District (Adair Taylor) Representative. Incumbent Republican Rep. Russ Mobley (R. Campbellsville, KY) is retiring. Both Carney and Mullins are residents of Taylor County. All six Columbia City Council seats are open this year. Incumbents are Charles Grimsley, Craig Dean, Linda Waggener, Edwin Taylor, Joe Moore, and June Parson. Councillors are elected to two year terms. The other elected city office, that of Mayor, will not be considered until 2010. Three Adair County School Board seats are open. They are in District 2, a seat now held by Marsha Walker; District 4, now held by Floyd Burton, and District 5, now held for Mike Harris. School Board Members are elected to four year terms.
