Obituary: Jewel Grider, 93, member, Glens Fork Christian Church

She was a member of a highly respected Adair County family. She is warmly remembered for her many years of service as medical assistant to the late Dr. George Nell in Columbia

Jewel G. Grider, 93, a resident of Summit Manor Health and Rehab Center, passed away Sunday, May 25, 2008, at 5:05pm, after several weeks illness at Summit Manor.

The funeral service will be Wednesday, May 28, 2008, at 1:00pmCT at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg ST, Columbia, KY, with Bro. Bill Wethington and Bro. Raymond Martin the officiating clergy.


She was born June 29, 1914, the daughter of the late Loren S. and Letha Armstrong Guthrie of Adair County, KY.

She was the widow of Earl Washington Grider, who preceded her in death on July, 1982.

She is survived by the followings:
  • Nephews: Dave Rosenbaum, Lexington, KY; and William Scott Guthrie, Dexter, MI

  • Nieces: Sue Florio Gwinn, Ft. Lauderdale, FL; Anita Fletcher, Norma Jen Jessie, Iva Dean Collins, Carolyn Bennett, and Darrell Grider, all of Glens Fork, KY

  • And by several great nieces and nephew and and a host of friends
She was preceded in death by one brother, William A. Guthrie, in 1982, and by one sister, Norene Rosenbaum, in 2001.

Mrs. Grider was a member of the Glens Fork Christian Church and had worked for 21 years as a medical assistant in the office of Dr. George Nell.

Interment will be in the Columbia Cemetery.

The family requests visitation at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home after 4:00pm on Tuesday, May 27, 2008.

The family requests visiting after 2:00pmCT on Sunday, May 18, 2008, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, Columbia, KY.
