Nat'l Association of Letter Carriers Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive

By Randall Murrell, Postmaster, Columbia, KY

On Saturday, May 10, 2008 mail carriers in Adair County will again help "Stamp Out Hunger" with your help. Now in its 16th year, the "Stamp Out Hunger!" effort is the nation's largest single-day food drive, with mail carriers having collected more than 836 million pounds of food from postal customers since its inception. Donations are then delivered to community food banks.

To help Stamp Out Hunger! in Adair County this year, simply leave a sturdy bag containing non-perishable foods, such as canned soup, canned vegatables, pasta, rice or cereal in your mailbox prior to the time of regular mail delivery on May 10. Food items should be in non-breakable containers, such as boxes and cans. Local mail carriers will then collect the donations and delivery them to the Adair County Food Pantry.

The communites support for this annual event is greatly appreciated. Large donations can be conveniently dropped off at the Columbia Post Office during regular business hours any day through Saturday May 10.

For more information about the annual "Stamp Out Hunger!" effort in our community, contact the Columbia Post Office or visit www.helpstampouthunger.com.
