Dr. Warren Collins, 86, World War II veteran

Dr. Collins, a native of Russell County and a member of St. Petersburg United Methodist Church. He was an economist, a world traveler, and a master bridge player

Warren Collins age 86 years of St. Petersburg, Florida formerly ofClinton County, passed away Friday, April 11, 2008 at the NorthsideHospital in St. Petersburg, Florida after an illness.

The funeral service will be Saturday, April 19, 2008 at 11:30amCT, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home in Columbia, KY with Rev. David Alexander officiating.



He was born May 10, 1921, the son of the late Vander Martin and Lillian Cecil Collins of Russell County, KY.

Dr. Collins was a US Army World War II veteran and went on tograduate from Western Kentucky University. He earned hisdoctorate from the University of Illinois Dr. Collins was a professorat various universities and became an economist.

He traveled world-wide and was a master bridge player.

Presently Dr. Collins was a member of the Riveria United MethodistChurch, St. Petersburg, FL.

Survivors include the following:
  • One daughter: Martha "Marty" Leafe and husband Derry of Hobbs, New Mexico

  • Two sons: Tom Collins of Tampa, FL; and Jack Collins and his wife Amy of St. Petersburg, FL

  • One brother: Luther Collins of Columbia, KY

  • One sister: Elizabeth Webb of Cincinnati, OH

  • Three grandchildren: Erin Collins, Michael Collins, Megan Collins

  • Several nieces, nephews and a host of friends
Interment will be in the Haven Hill Cemetery, LIberty Road, Columbia, KY

The family request visiting from 4:00pm until 8:00pm on Friday, April 18, 2008, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg ST, Columbia, KY.
