Obituary: Mary Rodgers Napier, 85, dies in Indiana

She was a native of Adair, a member of a respected Portland area family

Mary Rodgers Napier, 85, Mooresville, IN, died Sunday, April 6, 2008, in Mooresville, IN.

The funeral service will be Tuesday, April 8, 2008, at 7:00pmET/6:00pmCT at Carlisle & Son Funeral Chapel in Mooresville, IN, with visitation from 4-7pmET/3-6pmCT.

Commital service will be Wednesday, April 9, 2008, at 1:00pmCT at Tarter's Chapel Cemetery in Adair County with Bro. Herbert Janes officiating. Burial will follow.



A native of Adair County, KY, she was a daughter of the late Charlie and Mable Beard and was preceded in death by her first husband, Caleb Rodgers, in 1957. She then married George Napier, who survives, in in 1973.

Besides her husband, she is survived by the followiing:
  • Three sons: Arvist and Alfred Rodgers, both of Mooresville, IN; and David Rodgers of Winter Haven , FL

  • One daughter: Glenda Hines, Mooresville, IN

  • Four step-children: Junior Napier, Greenwood, IN; Angeline Jones, Bloomington, IN; Gladys Wheeler, Monrovia, IN; Lois Philllps, Plainfield, IN

  • Two brothers: Cecil Beard, Portland, KY; and Glen Beard, Edmonton, KY

  • Four sisters: Pauline Rodgers and Lorine Edwards, both of Portland, KY; Dimple Parnell, Mooresville, IN; and Diane Atwell, Edmonton, KY

  • And four grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren; an adopted granddaughter, two adopted great grandchildren, and 17 step-grandchildren.
Grissom-Martin Funeral Home will be in charge of local arrangements.
