LWC Singers concert April 9, 2008, at Columbia Baptist Church With Photo, list of choir members By Duane Bonifer, LWC Public Affairs Director The Lindsey Wilson College Singers will perform their annual spring home concert on Wednesday, April 9, 2008. The concert will be at 7:00pmCT on April 9 at Columbia Baptist Church. The concert is part of the Lindsey Wilson College Cultural Affairs Series and which is free and open to the public. The Lindsey Wilson Singers' spring home concert is traditionally performed as the ensemble's final performance of its spring tour. This year's spring tour started in Albany, Ky., on Wednesday, April 2, 2008, at First Albany Baptist Church, the home of Lindsey Wilson Singer senior Brett Conner. Then the Singers drove to Nashville, Tenn., to board a plane for Jacksonville, Fla. After performing in Jacksonville, the Singers will travel up the Atlantic Coast and give concerts in Savannah, GA, Charleston, SS, and Salisbury, NC, before returning home to Adair County. "Our tours are always educationally enhancing, relationally rewarding and spiritually sustaining," Dr. Gerald Chafin, director of choral activities and associate professor of music, said. "And this tour will be no exception as our students will get to experience a great deal of Southern hospitality." The pieces to be performed at this year's spring home concert will feature primarily unaccompanied literature from Renaissance and Baroque eras, as well as some contemporary pieces, African-American spirituals and works that use 20th century choral idioms. "We enjoy performing a wide range of pieces for our audiences," Dr. Chafin said. The 24 students who compose the Lindsey Wilson Singers also represent a diverse collection of Lindsey Wilson students. "The Singers encompass just about all of the majors we offer at Lindsey Wilson," Dr. Chafin said. "These are students who have an avocation or love for music but happen to be a human services major, an English major or a biology major." And most of the Singers are upperclassmen that have spent several years in the ensemble. "This group has a lot of history, and this year's Singers have done an excellent job carrying the torch," Dr. Chafin said.
